Confirmation is the last of the Sacraments of Initiation, following Baptism and the Eucharist.
In Confirmation, we receive the Holy Spirit in a new and deeper way than at Baptism. While many people think of Confirmation as "becoming an adult Catholic," or "choosing the faith for yourself" if you were baptized as an infant, that is not really the meaning of the Sacrament. Instead, our identity as children of God is "confirmed," and we are given the grace we need to be witnesses to the family that we belong to, that of God and His Church.
At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles to give them the strength and knowledge that they needed to go out and share the Gospel with the entire world. When we are confirmed, the Holy Spirit descends upon us in the same way so that we will have the strength and grace we need to share the Good News of Christ's love in our world today.
